This would be our HD recording of the flight onboard. We'd also have a small camera on the 2.4ghz link (i'm guessing we can't get av out on the hero) which will give us a live feed to get excited over.

You can get AV out of the Hero rather easily. People were using them for FPV, so GoPro implemented a feature in firmware to output AV. No idea how it works, though.
